Following many years of major restoration the 1895 Sailing Trawler “Pilgrim” has sailed back into Brixham for the final refitting to enable her to rejoin the Heritage Fleet based here.

For the first time since 2004 - she rounded Berry Head at Noon on  4th October - minus mast and rigging but still a sight for sore eyes. She returned to a warm welcome from well wishers. Escorted into port by Vigilance - another of  Brixham’s Historic Sailing Trawlers.

Pilgrim was built at Brixham’s famous yard - J W & A Uphams - in later years the same yard was once again in the spotlight when it built a replica of the Mayflower to re-enact the voyage of the Pilgrim Fathers.

PILGRIM is the oldest surviving Brixham built and rigged sailing trawler of just a handful still in existence today. She is listed by The National Maritime Museum, recognising her as a very important part of Britain’s maritime history.
